Herman Haupt and his Influence on Civilian and Military Railroads
Herman Haupt (March 26, 1817 – December 14, 1905) was an American civil engineer and railroad construction engineer and executive. He revolutionized U.S. military transportation, particularly the use of railroads during the Civil War. He was responsible for the building of the Pennsylvania Railroad's famous Horseshoe Curve and the Fitchburg Railroad's Hoosac Tunnel.
